I was introduced to chiropractic in my youth, when my father after a severe fall, would seek chiropractic adjustments. I watched him receive care and was delighted to see increased mobility with the relief of pain. This method of treatment fascinated me because of the changes that could be effected within minutes.
After completing high school at Blackie, Alberta, I ventured to the University of Calgary – Faculty of Education to study the intricacies of teaching. My first years teaching were in Calgary and Black Diamond. I enjoyed teaching, but my interest in chiropractic increased. My husband, Robert enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and I decided to join him in the study to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
During our education at Palmer College of Chiropractic, I was granted my Certificate of Proficiency in Chiropractic X-ray, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), and Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.).
Upon graduation, I wrote the U.S. National Boards and the Canadian Chiropractic Board. Further educational studies in naturopathy and nutrition led to degrees as a Board Certified Naturopathic Physician (NMD), studied clinical acupuncture (FIACA) and a Diplomate with the American Clinical Board of Nutrition (D.A.C.B.N.).
Presently, my interest is focused on Bio-Energetic Medicine, with emphasis on Nutrition and Homeopathy, detoxification, diet, and exercise. Analysis of the patient’s body with a computer generated program (the QXCI), a bio-feedback system that resonates with the tissues, organs, nutrients, toxins and allergens, is used to give an assessment of the energetic state and health of the body.
Another computer program, on the Avatar, is extremely effective at identifying allergies and sensitivities. I also assess dental patients for compatibility of dental products to be used in extensive restoration and denture procedures.
My practice philosophy is to listen first, look to the whole patient and then begin care. The patients that I now work with have generally become extremely frustrated in their journey of health because of incongruence of information, while the pieces of their health puzzle are not fitting together. I look at each initial visit as an exciting adventure of guiding the patient, and taking them into areas to effect permanent and positive changes in their lives. These changes may be made through detoxification, nutrition, homeopathy, chiropractic, cold laser or dietary interventions.
Family:
After being in the chiropractic field for over thirty years, I cannot and will not just “retire.” With my husband Dr. Robert running the chiropractic portion of this office, I know the patients are receiving quality care. I continue to support his work and manage portions of the office, while doing my Bio-Energetic Medicine. Our son, Dr. Jason, has completed his Doctorate of Law in Australia, in Melbourne at LaTrobe University and will be working in Calgary with Gowlings. Our daughter Dr. Vanda, is practicing chiropractic in the United Arab Emirates in the city of Dubai, where she is one of six female chiropractors in the country.
